Would be nice for custom notification methods if it would be possible to use data fields on User or Group objects

Vars on users make sense to me, will be implemented. I'd refuse to implement them on groups. While they are technically possible in Icinga 2 they are not documented at all. And it is also hard to make use of them in a meaningful way - I've never met them in the wild, did you? Officially they do not exist at all.

I had a usecase yesterday. But can perfectly live without vars on group objects.

  • Subject changed from Add Fields to User/Group Object to Add Fields to User Object
  • Target Version set to 1.3.0

Ok, feature request accepted :-) But for users only, we might re-discuss this when group vars become an official/documented thing in Icinga 2.
