Maybe I'm wrong but the required attributes to create an host isn't right on the documentation (https://docs.icinga.com/icinga2/latest/doc/module/icinga2/chapter/object-types#objecttype-host).
After some tests the required attributes seems to be "address" and "check_command".
Only tested with API.

Yes except if you want to add the "template" in the host configuration attributes.
