Hi,

Looking at how the custom variables are showed in Icingaweb2, it may be interesting to make it more human readable.
Indeed:

  • for dynamic values based on functions, it is only printed "Object of type 'Function' and I would expect the current value instead/in addition
  • for hashes, it is printed as hashes, so understandable for IT persons but not user friendly

Attached a screenshot as an example.

Best regards,
Yannick

Hi,

thanks for your suggestion. This is indeed something which could be improved a lot and you've brought me to the idea that we may provide a button (or something similar) to let the user evaluate what the current value is. But this requires that the command transport for the given host/service is an Icinga 2 API transport, as there's no other way to retrieve this value from.

Anyway, we'll consider this for a future release. :)

Best regards,
Johannes

Great! Thanks for taking into account the suggestion.
I don't know if also fir hashes / arrays the way it is showed in icingaweb2 could be enhanced.

Cheers,
Yannick

Did you find a solution for this point?

No, this suggestion didn't made it yet. Chances are also rather low at this stage, at least for the monitoring module. Though, please add a comment regarding this to Icinga/icingadb-web#117, as it falls into the same topic and there others already showed their interest.
